Sales cycles and stocking up

Buy extra of what you use when it's at its lowest price.

Saves: Medium 5 min read

Many items go on sale in a regular pattern. Buying enough to last until the next sale, without overbuying, can cut costs on staples.

How to do it

  1. Note the regular price of your 10 most-bought items
  2. When they're on a good sale, buy enough for a few weeks
  3. Only stock up on things you use and can store properly
  4. Write the date on frozen items

Watch out for

  • Deals on things you wouldn't normally buy
  • "Buy 10 for $10" when you only need two (check if you must buy all ten)
  • Bulk sizes that go stale before you finish them
